Plumlife roadshow proves a hit with first time buyers

17/07/2010 08:14:00

Plumlife roadshow in ManchesterFIRST time buyers flocked to the Plumlife roadshow, which pitched up in prime town centre locations across Greater Manchester, Lancashire and South Yorkshire.

Staged throughout July by Plumlife, the government appointed HomeBuy agency for Greater Manchester, Lancashire and South Yorkshire, and supported by local councils, the roadshows aimed to spread the word about the various home ownership options available from the Homes and Communities Agency (HCA).

The Plumlife HomeBuy team were kept busy throughout, explaining schemes such as New Build HomeBuy (shared ownership) and HomeBuy Direct, a government backed, interest free “equity loan” on selected new homes. Funding for HomeBuy Direct is up for review in September, but is still available on a wide range of prestigious developments across the region if buyers act now.

Impossible to miss, with its snazzy new promo trailer, the tour attracted high numbers, kicking off in true style in Sheffield (Fargate). It then moved swiftly on to Barnsley (Cheapside) and Rotherham (Parkgate shopping centre), followed by Manchester city centre – bang slap in the middle of Piccadilly Gardens, before finally alighting at Albion Street in Oldham.

Along with Plumlife’s team of HomeBuy experts, some of the UK’s top developers were there to explain how first time buyers can take advantage of the HomeBuy Direct scheme right now. Free, impartial mortgage advice was also on offer from Mortgage Warehouse Corporation.

As well as extensive PR, press advertising and a RightMove campaign, Plumlife also distributed thousands of glossy, OK! Magazine style promotional flyers to capture the attention of passers-by.

Plumlife deputy chief executive, Matthew Harrison said, “The opportunity to buy your own home still eludes many working people, which is why the HCA has stepped in to help.

“We’re always trying new and dynamic ways to promote the HCA’s HomeBuy schemes, and the idea behind the roadshow was to make ourselves as visible and accessible as possible.  Working in partnership with local councils, we managed to pitch our trailer bang slap in the middle of town centre shopping areas to ensure maximum visibility. The team spoke to hundreds of people across the three regions, and we’re hopeful that take up for schemes such as HomeBuy Direct and New Build HomeBuy will be bolstered as a result.”

Plumlife, part of Great Places Housing Group, has been appointed by the HCA as HomeBuy Agency for Greater Manchester, offering a ‘one stop shop’ information and registration service for first time buyers, key workers and any household earning less than £60,000 per year.  It acts as a first point of contact for all aspiring home owners who want to rent or buy a home through the government’s HomeBuy affordable home ownership schemes.
