Lisa Nandy MP opens the door to a new housing scheme in Wigan

Lisa Nandy, MP for Wigan officially launched a new £4m housing development aimed at first time buyers and residents in the town.

The Nestings, a site in Pemberton, consists of 10 two and three bedroomed homes to purchase through shared ownership from us. There are also 23 houses available for rent from Great Places. We support the National Housing Federation’s ambition to work towards building 120,000 homes a year.

An official opening took place at the scheme with Lisa Nandy MP, Anees Mank, lead for housing and regeneration of Wigan Council, Guy Cresswell, director of housing services at Great Places Housing Group, Nick Gornall, development manager at Great Places, Lisa Westerman, group head of sales at Plumlife and Alex Sanderson, sales manager at Plumlife.

The scheme has been built by Kier Living and was partly funded by the Homes and Communities Agency (HCA) who provided a grant of £686,000.

Lisa Nandy MP said: “I welcome this development as we urgently need more affordable homes to help people in Wigan on to the property ladder.”

Councillor David Molyneux, Wigan Council’s cabinet member for regeneration, said: “It’s great to see such high quality new housing being built in Wigan which is available for residents at an affordable price through the shared ownership scheme.

“At Wigan Council we’re committed to assisting the building of affordable housing to suit growing demand in the borough and The Nestings is an excellent example of that.”

Sarah Pope, one the first buyers at The Nestings, said: “I chose to buy at The Nestings because it’s stylish, modern and above all affordable. I’d recommend shared ownership as the perfect way for single buyers to get a foot on to the property ladder.”

Guy Cresswell, said: “We built The Nestings, a leafy development on the outskirts of Wigan, to provide much needed good quality, low cost housing stock for residents to buy or rent. The scheme caters for first time buyers looking to step onto the property ladder and purchase a brand new home, as well as tenants wanting modern homes with good quality interiors.”

Two bedroomed shared ownership houses are available for £38,500 for a 35 percent share with a monthly rent of £164 and £44,275 for a 35 percent share of a three bedroomed property with a monthly rent of £188. For residents wanting to rent a two bedroomed house it costs £97 a week or £110 for a three bedroomed property.
