From a one-bedroom flat in Old Trafford to a brand new three-bedroom home – it’s been quite a journey for 43 year old Ottilia and her daughter Lena.
Ottilia who is the Managing Director of a not-for-profit community events company, took the keys to her brand new home on the Foxwood development in Manchester after a decade living at her previous abode.
For Ottilia, it’s an achievement she’s always wanted to realise.
She said: “I’ve known about Plumlife for a little while. I looked at the website and I was waiting for the right time and the right place to come up before I bought.
“I knew which areas I wanted to live in so I was in touch with the new developments.
“We loved the place where we lived before but it was too small for the two of us and after 10 years, it was definitely the right time to move on and buy my own home.
“I always wanted a new-build so it was new and modern and didn’t smell like anyone else had ever lived in it! It also meant there was no DIY to do and we just needed to make it our own and somewhere we can throw down roots and grow.
“When the homes became available on Foxwood, it was perfect as I went to Salford University and it was great to return to that area.”
When Ottilia was initially interested in a different property but was unable to complete the deal, Plumlife Sales Advisor Michelle Topping was on hand to help.
She added: “Michelle was a dream to work with. At first I missed out on a property as I didn’t have my mortgage in time, but Michelle reassured me that if I went on the waiting list one would come up soon.
“She was kind and caring throughout the process and shared my happiness when I was accepted for the property. She was always professional, caring and calm throughout the process.”
Ottilia bought a 35% share of her new home through the Shared Ownership scheme, paying a monthly rent on the remaining 65%. She can go on to purchase up to 100% in future and said she would encourage other people to give the scheme a go.
“It allows people in a similar situation to mine - single working people, single working mothers – the chance to get onto the property ladder so it’s brilliant,” she said.
“It feels fabulous to get onto the property ladder, it feels like a great achievement.
“And it was good to use my savings on a deposit – an investment into mine and my daughter’s future and well worth it.”
