Charlotte thought that owning a home in Macclesfield was beyond her and her partner’s James’ means. That was until Charlotte came across a Plumlife ad - then everything changed...
Charlotte, an account manager, and James, a sales advisor, both 27, had longed to buy a house in Macclesfield. But the deposit for the house of the dreams was proving impossible.
Charlotte said: “I thought that buying a home that we wanted was out of our reach. Every time I tried to save for a deposit, I had to use the money for something else.”
“I was looking online for a house in the Macclesfield/Bollington area and I saw the Plumlife ad. So I clicked it and started reading more about the Waterways development and read about Shared Ownership.”
“I knew a little bit about it, and a few people had told me that it wasn’t all that is was cracked up to be, so that made me investigate it even more.”
“But the more I investigated, the more I thought that this could work for us.”
The couple went to view the show home and were very impressed with the quality on offer for an affordable product.
Charlotte added: “We have a drive big enough for two cars and a lovely garden. And the location of the property is perfect. We are close enough to the city if we want a night out but we both like the quiet life and we are away from the main road so it’s nice and peaceful.”
“Even the house at the back of ours is offset so it’s not imposing. I never thought we would be able to afford this quality of house – but here we are!”
To secure their home, the couple put down £3,700 for a 35 per cent share of the property – way under the average deposit needed through the more traditional route.
Charlotte added: “I’m not sure we would have ever been in a position to buy a house like we have without Shared Ownership. I’d recommend Shared Ownership to anyone. It’s a fantastic scheme and something that people should definitely consider when looking for a new home.”
“The Plumlife team was fantastic; they explained everything very clearly and responded in good time when I needed something.”
“All-in-all we are very happy. We have found a home that we love and we feel very lucky.”
