Laura loves her job as a clinical tutor in vet nursing at Myerscough College near Preston, but the 32-year-old found that cost of a lengthy commute from Bolton was taking its toll on her social life and her pocket. Petrol and rent costs meant that she had very little left at the end of the month, and left her feeling that she was never going to be able to save enough to get a deposit to get onto the property ladder.
Her mum was all too aware of Laura’s money woes and was keen to help her daughter find a way out of the situation. By chance, Laura’s mum spotted boards for Plumlife’s new development in Beacon Place when she was driving in the area. A stones throw from Laura’s work she thought it was too good an opportunity not to find out more. Upon her arrival home, Laura’s mum went online and called the Plumlife sales team to get more information on the options available. After having a chat with Sarah from the sales team she booked for her and Laura to go to the upcoming open day and get information on available plots.
Animal lover Laura was impressed by the quality of the show home and had never thought that she would be able to afford something like Beacon Place. The two-bed plot with parking and a garden was ideal for her and two dogs, two rabbits and a cat. Close to the Lancashire countryside was also ideal for Laura a keen walker and lover of all things outdoors. She was sold.
From then on, the Plumlife team were at hand to help Laura every step of the way, putting her in touch with Metro Finance, who explained the various finance options available to Laura and her mum. Laura decided to buy a 35% share with an option to by a larger share further down the line. This means that she now pays an affordable monthly mortgage of £247 and rent of £287.
“They say that buying a new house is one of the most stressful things you can do. Luckily, Sarah from Plumlife was great and kept me in regular contact. She was also on hand to answer any questions I had, which helped to make the buying process as smooth and stress free as possible and now I’ve got my foot on the property ladder and I’m living in a home I never thought would be within my budget.”
“Beacon Place is ideal and has meant that my commute has gone from one hour to just eight minutes, saving me a small fortune in petrol costs and giving me lots of time to enjoy my new home. In fact, I’ve also bought a bike and I am planning on cycling to work when the weather gets better.”
“There’s plenty going on in the area, with a whole host of social clubs and activities including a cycling club I’m thinking of getting involved with. When it comes to local amenities there’s a local co-op in the neighbourhood and a great little restaurant which are both walking distance, but you’re also only ten minutes drive from Garstang where you can do your weekly shop.”
When it comes to shared ownership Laura would definitely encourage people to consider it as a great way to make those all important steps onto the property ladder.
“It’s something I’d overlooked before now, but thanks to shared ownership I could get a house I want in an area I want to live. I’ve already suggested to friends to have a think about it as an option. I now feel settled and happy living in a place where I want to be.”
