When Tyler got a new job in Manchester city centre, his joy was tempered with the sky-high costs of renting a home.
That’s when a search for a new home brought up Plumlife’s Worrall Street development in Salford, a 157-home development a stone’s throw from Salford Quays, and Tyler started to research the possibility actually owning his own home.
He said: “I got a new job in the city centre and was overwhelmed with the rent prices compared to back home.
“I found Worrall street and fell in love with the area as it’s right next to the canal surrounded by lovely greenery and wildlife, not unlike back home in Dunham Massey.
“When I found the shared ownership model listed on Rightmove, instead of the usual rented listings, I was immediately curious because I never thought it would be possible for me to live on my own in the city, especially when I earn minimum wage.
“But when I came for a viewing after seeing the show homes and Sales Advisor Rachel explained how it worked, I instantly knew it was right for me, so much so that I booked another viewing for the week after and reserved my apartment.”
He added: “The apartment came with essentials such as a dishwasher and washing machine, which was a big relief. As the apartment was brand new, these hadn’t initially been installed, but the Worrall Street maintenance team kept me updated with regular communication via email and text, ensuring I knew when someone would be available to help.”
“I love that I am able to do what I want with my space and live independently. The large window allows for some great views of the outside and the green embankment on the canal. My cat also loves the window and Juliet balcony as he’s able to eavesdrop on the passing birds.”
Would Tyler recommend Shared Ownership?
Tyler added that he would, and does, recommend the Shared Ownership model as it has allowed him to live independently without being saddled with a huge rent costs.
“Shared ownership has helped me massively as it allows me to pay a comfortable amount while still maintaining great facilities, such as the rooftop terrace and coworking space which you don’t usually get anywhere else,” he said. “You usually have to sacrifice the quality of the space to afford the rent, but here I have the best of both.”
“I would absolutely recommend Shared Ownership to others. “I have brought various friends around for viewings and explained the model to them in the past. “It’s a comfortable way of owning your own home while not having to sacrifice my whole pay check.
“I moved out of my childhood home to live here and I can’t explain how it changed my life. “It’s given me the independence and confidence that I needed in my professional career, and I wouldn’t want to live anywhere else, especially considering how close I am to the canal and the trams.
“It’s just coming up to a year of me living here and it’s been wonderful to see various neighbours moving in and also welcoming the space. I look forward to many more years here.”
