When Nisha passed the Elm Rise development in Shaw on the tram, little did she know that she was passing her future home.

Now, she is the proud owner of a three-bedroomed detached property and a place to call her own – with a little help from the Shared Ownership scheme.

Nisha’s search

Nisha was living with her family nearby and, as she is approaching a milestone birthday, she wanted a place of her own.

She had been looking at properties on the open market but due to the high cost of deposits and the affordability, she couldn’t make the finances work.

She registered her interest in late 2024, researched Shared Ownership further and by June 2025 she was unlocking the door to her brand new home.

If she’d have bought on the open market, Nisha’s options would’ve been an apartment or a home requiring renovations, which wouldn’t have been affordable. Through the Shared Ownership scheme, Nisha was able to purchase a brand new three-bedroom detached home with a south facing garden. Nisha describes her new home as a “fresh blank canvas.”

Nisha’s experience

Nisha told us “I have always lived with family but I wanted something of my own, that was still close to my family and friends.

“As I was a solo purchaser, it had to be affordable. The open market was too expensive so Shared Ownership was a really good option for me.

“I used to go past the development on the tram and dreamed about buying a house there. And once I had reserved my new home, I would come home from Manchester, pass the development and see it going up brick-by-brick and think ‘OMG that’s actually my house!’

“Buying a home with solar panels was also a big driver as it means that my home is more energy efficient.

“At my mum’s I was always turning off lights and sockets but in my new home, this is less of a concern. I was conscious about the cost of bills after moving on but I’ve found that my house is energy efficient with fantastic heat retention.”

A great experience with Plumlife

Not only was Nisha delighted with her new home, she was delighted by the service from Plumlife.

She added: “Jonny (sales advisor) was brilliant. I wasn’t familiar with the home-buying process as a first-time buyer but the team were brilliant.

“I was a little nervous as I bought a new build home off-plan, which a lot of people told me not to do, but after I reserved Jonny sent me all the relevant documents and a video walkthrough which was really exciting.

“He always kept me up to date and showed a genuine interest in helping me buy my first home. This level of customer service is hard to come by.”

Would Nisha recommend Shared Ownership?

“I would definitely recommend the Shared Ownership model and I had a fantastic experience. I couldn’t have asked for more, from registering my interest, to moving in, to the after sales care, and everything else in between.

“In the future, I will be looking to buy additional shares and go on to own it outright. It’s just a great scheme for people like myself who are looking to get on the property ladder, I never thought I’d be able to afford to buy a home by myself, but Shared Ownership made it possible.”
